Part 1: Self-Assessment of your writing
A. Strengths
In general, writing is one of my stronger points. I believe my strengths are a strong grammatical background and wide vocabulary.
B. Weaknesses
My weakness in writing is anything to do with a research paper from the initial research to the finished product.
C. My Writing Habits
I like to write a whole paper at once. I would rather sit at a computer for a few hours straight and be done than work in little sections. I need a constant flow of ideas. Brainstorming, outlines, etc. slow me down (unless we are talking about a research paper). After I complete a draft I edit it and send it to a trusted friend for revising and editing. Once the revisions are complete, I send it in as there is no sense in waiting around to see if I change my mind about anything.
D. Edits/Comments from class assignments
Sometimes my flow is hard to follow, but overall I write well.
Part 2: Thinking about your writing as a Masters student
A. Where are you in journey on your Masters? Where do you stand with your elective classes?
This is my second class towards my Masters. I have not completed any elective credits yet, but I do have enough staff development hours for one bundled course and am very close to getting enough for a second one. (Update 4/28/12: I have completed a winter mini for three hours credit and I am enrolled for six hours elective credit during the summer one session. I have enough staff development hours to bundle a course, but because of the six hour summer cap, that will have to wait.)
B. Is there an area of weakness you would like to improve?
Not really.
Part 3: Professors Role
What do you expect out of your professors in order to help you grow as a writer?
What I am weakest at is writing formal research papers and I avoid those like the plague. If I were forced to do a research paper, I would hope to have help with citations and the bibliography page. A research paper is the one type of paper I need to have extreme structure and feedback for.
Part 4: Additional Comments about Your Writing
I love creative writing, but anything that I have to support with research is put off until the last possible moment.
