Metaphor for Teaching
Teaching is cooking. There are many diverse ingredients and unique flavors that are the spice of life. Over time you come to appreciate many ingredients and how different combinations add variety. Cooking can be a mathematical process or a creative process. Experimentation allows you to take every day ingredients and change something – maybe a new technique you learned or a new tool you bought – to take your favorite recipe up a notch. The outcome may not be what was expected. Sometimes that new dish you thought would be great turns out to be a disaster, but you learn from each experience. Other times you find a new family favorite that you make constantly at the request of your spouse or kids. On busy week nights, you just have to take whatever you find in your pantry and make the best of it!
