SED 528: Philosophy
Spring 2011
When exploring the philosophy of teaching, you have to think about your end goal. My goal is not to just teach music, but to teach life lessons – personal character, determination, perseverance, and hard work. In this semester we reflected on our beliefs and why we chose to teach. Mine is simple: to share the joy of music with those around me.
We also studied Champion Techniques, which are small, hands-on techniques. I have experimented with various techniques since this semester began. Some have been incredibly useful, and others have dropped by the wayside because they are not directly applicable to making music. This is a book I will pull out again and again to refresh my ideas on how to get students more actively involved in my class.
